MK-677 comes up constantly so here's a balanced look.
What it does: Mimics ghrelin, stimulates GH release. Oral dosing (no injections). Increases IGF-1 levels.
The good:
- Convenient oral dosing, usually 10-25mg/day
- Consistent GH elevation throughout the day
- Improved sleep quality (commonly reported)
- Some studies show improved bone density over time
The not-so-good:
- Water retention and bloating (especially early on)
- Increased appetite (it mimics a hunger hormone)
- Blood sugar impact — can worsen insulin sensitivity
- Doesn't pulse GH like natural secretion or GHRP/GHRH combos
vs. Injectable GH peptides (CJC/Ipa, GHRP-2, etc.):
- MK-677 is easier (just swallow a pill)
- Injectables give more natural pulsatile release
- Injectables generally have fewer metabolic side effects
- MK-677 stays active longer (this can be good or bad)
Bottom line: Good entry point for GH research but not without tradeoffs. The insulin sensitivity issue is real and worth monitoring with bloodwork.
