PTD-DBM has appeared in Korean research papers and represents an interesting mechanistic approach to hair research.
What it is:
A peptide that inhibits CXXC5 (a negative regulator of the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway). This mechanism may help activate hair follicle stem cells without directly affecting DHT pathways.
Why it is interesting:
It does not work through hormonal pathways (unlike finasteride). Topical application in mouse studies showed new hair growth. No systemic hormonal side effects occur theoretically. Published research appears in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
The limitations:
Mouse studies only — no human trials have been conducted. Very few vendors carry it. Limited dosing data exists. Unclear how well it penetrates the scalp topically in practical applications.
This represents a non-hormonal research direction that contrasts with traditional DHT-focused approaches.
